What is the new Football Manager game 2025? ›

The release date for Football Manager 2025 will be one of the most eagerly anticipated in the history of the iconic management simulation franchise. FM 25 will be the first edition to use Unity, a powerful game engine expected to propel the popular series into a completely different stratosphere.

FM25 will launch on PC/Mac while Football Manager 25 Console will release on Xbox One, Series X/S and PS5. This has been confirmed by Sports Interactive and Sega. Football Manager 25 Touch and Football Manager 25 Mobile are set to be released, too, presumably on Nintendo Switch, Android and iOS devices.

For the first time in decades, FM25 is going to be a true sequel. The switch to Unity game engine enabled the developers to deliver a vastly improved UI, new tech for Newgens, new and more real-life animations, as well as graphical upgrades everywhere. We can't wait to see all that in action.

Sports Interactive have dropped a first look at Football Manager 2025's brand-new user interface as they embark on an exciting new era in their history. For those who aren't aware, FM 25 will be the first Football Manager release to use Unity – a game engine that powers many of the world's best-known games.

So the news that Football Manager 2024 has become the best-selling entry in series history feels both unsurprising and richly deserved. Sports Interactive has announced that last week saw the game record "its seven millionth player" which beats the previous record of 6.88 million players set by Football Manager 2023.

FM24 is the last version of this "era" of FM games, so it's the most polished it will probably ever be. Fm23 and 24 run much faster than those before it is the biggest thing honestly, like, a huge thing if you play with 100k+ players or so.

Looking ahead, the studio said it will be moving on to using Unity for Football Manager 2025 - the first time the series will use a new game engine. Sports Interactive said, "Unity was the clear favourite to take us into an exciting new era for the series."

At the other end of the scale, on FM21, young players could develop so quickly that they could easily peak at 21 or 22. This has been significantly slowed down on FM22, and so a top prospect generally won't realise their full potential until they're around 25 to 29.

It's in the ways that you don't expect FM to be lifelike that it manages to surprise you, though. FM24 is another triumph in that respect and as the last of this current engine before a bigger update in FM25, this is the finest version of the simulation we know and love.

Football Manager 2024 Touch is playable on Mac, iPad and iPhone with Apple Arcade. Improvements have been made on the aesthetics of the game on iPhone this year, too.
