Noreen Elizabeth Boone, originally of Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland, passed away Monday, August 1, 2005. She was a devoted nurse, a compassionate friend and a loving mother. She is survived by her husband, Charles Boone; a daughter, Shannon Boone of the home; two brothers, Ivan and wife Eva Hayes of Canada and Hughie Hayes of Northern Ireland; two nephews, Graham and wife Carrie Hayes of Canada and Coleen and Gillian Hayes of Canada; and close friends, Kevin and Elva McRandle of Ireland. Jack Danforth Boswell

Mr. Jack Danforth Boswell, 79, a resident of Merritt, died Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Craven Regional Medical Center, New Bern. Services will be held at a later date. Jean Gatlin Bowers

NEW BERN -- Mrs. Jean Gatlin Bowers, 70, of 705 Pine Tree Dr., died Thursday at Craven Regional Medical Center. A native of Pamlico County, Mrs. Bowers was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, a member of Iron Dukes, former member of American Nurses Association, and a former member of the N.C. Nurses Association. She was a graduate of St. Mary's College, as well as of Duke University School of Nursing in 1950. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 12, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Reverend Leonard Doucette officiating. The interment will follow in the Gatlin family cemetery in Stonewall. Mrs. Bowers is survived by her husband, Robert G. Bowers, of the home; three daughters, Susan Bowers Guptill and husband, Randy Guptill, of Durham, Lynda Bowers Sadler and husband, William Sadler, of Riverbend, and Sherri Bowers Richard and husband, Michael Richard, of New Bern; and five grandchildren, Robert Sadler, of Louisville, Ky., James and Chris Guptill, of Durham, and Rhiannon and Maegen Richard, of New Bern. Fred Len Boyd, 86, passed away Friday, June 9, 2006 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. Born in Pamlico County in 1920, his parents were Thomas Lacey Boyd and Bessie Paul Boyd. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 PM on Monday at Scotts Hill Weslyn Methodist Church, Hwy. 17 in Scotts Hill. A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Curtis Campbell and brother-in-law, C. B. Caroon, will be held at 4:00 PM in the church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Benny P. Brady

Benny P. Brady of Flint, age 70, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, December 19, 2005 at her residence. Mrs. Brady was born in Pamlico County, North Carolina on September 17, 1935 and was a resident of the Flint area since 1954. She married Homer Brady on October 13, 1952. She was long time member and Assistant Pastor at the Family Worship Center. She and her husband dedicated their lives to working in the ministry. Mrs. Brady had a tax preparation business from her home for many years. Surviving are husband, Homer; 4 children, Wayne Brady of Flint, Ali and husband Dave Rood of Vermontville, Michigan, Lisa and husband Gregory Norris of Swartz Creek, Floyd Brady of Flint; 15 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; sister, Lindsey Lewis of North Carolina; 2 brothers, Thomas and wife Dora Pickles of North Carolina, John and wife Cindy Pickles of North Carolina; many nieces and nephews. Elizabeth Clayton Weston Brantley

WILLIAMSTON, NC - Elizabeth Clayton Weston Brantley, 90, passed away February 3, 2003 at Martin General Hospital. Mrs. Brantley was the daughter of the late Susan Sawyer and John Clayton of Aurora, NC. She was married in 1934 to Frank E. Weston, who preceded her in death in 1956. She married Robert Lee Brantley, Jr. in 1976, who preceded her in death in 1989. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Caroline Clayton Brincefield, a brother, John Warren Clayton, and a half-brother, George Sheldon Peed, Sr. She was a longtime resident of Williamston except for a 15-year period, 1960 to 1975, residing in Sebring, Florida. Mrs. Brantley is survived by two sons, Robert Weston of Richmond, Virginia and Clayton Weston of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; a daughter, Barbara Weston of Sebring, Florida; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A funeral service was conducted on Wednesday, February 5, 2003 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Walker Funeral Home with the Rev. Cliff Harrell officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Carol Jackson Brinson

GRANTSBORO - Mr. Carol Jackson Brinson, 79, of 1377 Highway 306 S., died Monday, February 2, 2004 at Craven Regional Medical Center. He was a member of Rock of Zion Free Will Baptist Church where he served as honorary deacon. He was also a member of the VFW of Pamlico and was retired from Cherry Point and Bryant Funeral Home. Mr. Carol, as he was so affectionately known, was a man dedicated first of all to his Lord and secondly to his family, and then to his many friends. His devotion and character was a trait that in today’s world has been a tremendous influence on those who knew him and his life will never be forgotten by those who loved and cared for him. He is survived by his wife, Frances W. Brinson; one son, Gary Brinson and wife, Sharon, of Alliance; one daughter, Phyllis Ethel of Grantsboro; two brothers, Melvin Earl Brinson and Clyde Brinson, both of Grantsboro; three grandchildren, Kim Brinson Potter, Megan Leigh Brinson and Freddie Ethel III; and two great-grandchildren, Hunter Potter and Dylan Jackson Potter. She was a member of Amity Christian Church. She was also a member of the N.C. Basket Weavers Association and volunteered with the Pamlico County Historical Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Brinson Jr., and son, Joseph W. "Jody" Brinson III. She is survived by her son, Gary Lynn Brinson of Arapahoe; daughter, Gail Brinson of New Bern; brother-in-law, L. Lea Banks of Virginia Beach, Va.; sister, Clara Eldridge of Arapahoe; six grandchildren, Gail Deneen Roberts Alvis, Z. Mead Roberts III, M. Todd Roberts, C. Shane Brinson, USCG, Shannon K. Eames, and Summer L. Brinson; six great-grandchildren, Kristin L. Roberts, K. Ciara Roberts, Aaron M. Roberts, Michael T. Roberts Jr., Corbyn P. Eva Belle Carmady Brinson

Eva Belle Carmady Brinson of Grantsboro, died May 8, 2009. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Vance Burton Brinson Sr.; her children, Burt (Gayle) Brinson of Salisbury, Doyle (Linda) Brinson of Southport, Joan (Chris) Dressler of Winston-Salem; her grandchildren, Lee (Julianna) Brinson of Chapel Hill, Hilary (Chris) Wilkes of New York City, Scott Brinson of Fayetteville, and Jeb Brinson of Wilmington; and her great- grandchildren, Amelia and Noah Brinson of Chapel Hill. Mrs. Brinson was born in Janeiro on Jan. 21, 1926, to Rumley and Eva Dixon Carmady. Her brothers, Ray and Cecil and sister, Erma, predeceased her. She graduated from Alliance High School and King's Business College. She was the oldest member of Rock of Zion Free Will Baptist Church, having joined in 1937. She was a loyal member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Bayboro Chapter 189, which she served faithfully in many capacities, including secretary for 40 years. She was devoted to her family, her church and her community. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 10 at Bryant Funeral Home, Alliance. Helen Williams Brinson

ALLIANCE - Helen Williams Brinson, 86, died Thursday, January 24, 2008, at Craven Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Brinson was a member of the Alliance Pentecostal Holiness Church in Alliance and was owner and operator of Strickland Grill in Reelsboro for many years. She was known throughout this area for her home cooking. She was a mentor to anyone who needed assistance and she will be greatly missed. Jack Durwood Brinson

ARAPAHOE - Jack Durwood Brinson, 94, of Arapahoe, NC died Sunday, September 4 at Britthaven of Pamlico in Alliance, NC. A graduate of Atlantic Christian College of Wilson, NC, he served his adult life as a Sunday school teacher and Elder of Bethany Christian Church. He also served as a Trustee of Atlantic Christian College (not Barton College) for over 40 years and as a Board Member of the North Carolina Department of Transportation. He is survived by his son, Jack Douglas Brinson, and wife, Annette, of Arapahoe. He also leaves behind three grandchildren whom he loved dearly: Jack Benjamin Brinson of Columbia, Maryland, Mary Kate Brinson of Winterville, NC and Sarah Jane Brinson of Arapahoe, NC. The son of Jehu Jackson Brinson and Kate Pipkin Brinson, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Belangia Brinson, and daughter, Elizabeth Faye Brinson. Leo T. Brinson

Leo T. Brinson, 76, a native of Arapahoe, NC died March 21 after suffering complications of pneumonia. He served as a Lt. in the US Navy during World WAR II in Guam. He received his Masters degree in Engineering from NCSU, and was employed in the midwest during his working years at Nordberg Mfg. of Milwaukee, Brown Boveri of St. Cloud, MN and GM of LaGrange, IL. He retired and returned to his hometown of Arapahoe in 1987, where he has been active in local activities. He has served as Mayor of Arapahoe for the past 10 years, past president of Rotary of Oriental, member of Pamlico Shrine Club, advisory board of the Charter School, Retirement Club of Arapahoe, and an active member of Bethany Christian Church of Arapahoe. Milton W. Brinson

RALEIGH - Milton W. Brinson, 93, of Raleigh, died Sept. 11. He was the son of the late Robert T. Brinson and Leah Elizabeth Scott Brinson and brother of the late R.T. Brinson Jr. Milton was born at Silverhill/Grantsboro in Pamlico County on June 15, 1915. After he graduated from Alliance High School in 1933, he attended and completed a business course at Kings Business College in Raleigh. He was employed by the J.C. Penney Company for eight years in Greenville and Wilson. He was drafted during World War II on Feb. 7, 1942. He married Mildred Carson Phillips of Waynesville on Jan. 30, 1948 at Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Fla. He remained in military service (U.S. Air Force) for 25 years and retired as a lieutenant colonel on Nov. 1, 1966 at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Va. He and his family moved to Raleigh and, on Dec. 1, 1966, he became employed by the North Carolina Employment Security Commission, where he was employed for 20 years and retired Jan. 1, 1987. He then began to research and prepare his family history. He was a member of Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, where he had served as a deacon and an elder. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Phillips Brinson; son, Robert Scott Brinson, and his wife, Martha Kuper Brinson, of the Green Level community; son, Jack Phillips Brinson, and his wife, Shirley Clay Brinson; and two grandchildren, David Graham Brinson and Rebecca Lorraine Brinson, all of Raleigh. The memorial service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church, with a reception immediately following in the church parlor. Velna Estelle Brite of Wilmington, NC, died Sunday, February 2, 2003, at her residence. She was born January 24, 1916, in Pamlico County, NC, daughter of the late Levi and Sally Muse Rowe and was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Mitchell Brite; two sisters, Vera Lee and Hazel Anderson; and a brother, James Rowe. Mrs. Brite was a loving mother and grandmother. She was an avid gardener which brought her much peace and contentment. ORIENTAL - Jimmy Brooks Broughton, 70, died Wednesday, February 15, 2006, at Craven Regional Medical Center. Jimmy was a native of Oriental and everyone knew him. He was a loved friend. Jimmy was a carpenter and house builder for 35 years. When he retired from that, he had a lawn business and helped his son with his business. Jimmy loved the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and loved the water. He loved his family and friends. Jimmy was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Sue Everett; his parents, Jim and Minnie Broughton; three brothers, Delma, A.D. and Elbert; and three sisters, Peggy Scott, Darlene Kindlesparkle and Arlene Marini. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Madeline P. Broughton; one son, Brooks Broughton and wife Tammy; five grandchildren, Carly and Lindsey Everett and their father, Aaron; Amanda and Brandon Broughton and Tiffany Scott, all of Oriental; and one sister, Billie and husband Tommy Glisson of Florida. Donald Vincent Brousard, Sr.

AURORA, NC - Donald Vincent Brousard, age 83, a resident of 510 South 5th Street in Aurora, NC, died in the Two Rivers Health Care Facility in New Bern on Sunday, April 13, 2003. Graveside funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, April 15 at 3 pm at the South Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Phillip Lewis. The family greeted friends at Paul Funeral Home in Washington on Monday, April 14 from 7 pm until 8:30 pm and at other times at his home in Aurora. Mr. Brousard was a native of Matagora, Texas, born there June 2, 1919. He moved to Beaufort County in the early 1960’s along with Dr. Leo Miller in the early days of Texasgulf Sulphur Co., now PCS. He served in numerous positions with Texasgulf, among them being a mining foreman. He was a Methodist and a Mason and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was married first to Doris Brousard, who preceded him in death and on October 2, 1988 he married the former Elizabeth “Libby” Mercer who survived. Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Natalie B. Morton and Donna B. Spain, both of Pamlico County; three sons, Donald V. Brousard, Jr. of Greenville and Douglas Brousard and Dana Brousard, both of Aurora; stepchildren, Douglas Oakley of Greenville and Paulette Oakley of Blounts Creek; two grandchildren raised in his home, Kerry Glenn Brousard of Raleigh and Yevette Rogers of Pamlico County. He was a member of Bayboro United Methodist Church, Craven Community Concert Band, and the Pamlico Community Band. He was a member of Rainbow Lodge #479, where he was a past master, New Bern Scottish Rite Bodies, Sudan Temple, and the Pamlico County Shrine Club where he was an original member of the Mourners. Pamlico Co., NC Obituaries - Bo-By (1)REELSBORO - Mildred Hines Reel Buck (Mimi), died Friday at the home of her daughter in New Bern. Her daughters, Emily and Linda, and son-in-law, Dick, were with her at her peaceful death, which followed a lengthy illness. She was the daughter of the late Floyd Hines Reels and Emily Elizabeth Brinson Reel. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene "Gene"; her son, Gene Raymond; a sister, Kathleen Curtis; and a brother, Floyd H. Reel, Jr. The greatest of her legacies was her great love of her family. She had a profound appreciation for history; genealogy became her passion and she spent most of her life researching her and her husband's ancestors. She was born February 20, 1914 in Reelsboro, which was named for her family, and lived most of her life there. Her love of community, especially Reelsboro, was so evident that she wrote a book so that the history of this little community would be passed on to future generations. She also handscribed and published the Pamlico County Marriage Licenses 1872-1940, as well as the history of the Reelsboro Methodist Church. She was Registrar of the Reelsboro Precinct for 25 years. She was a very active member of the Pamlico County Democratic Party and held the office of Vice Chairman for four years. She was one of the founders and charter members of the Pamlico County Historical Society. She was a member of the Reelsboro United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star. She is survived by her daughters, Emily Buck Scoppe and son-in-law, Richard "Dick" Scoppe, of New Bern, N.C., and Linda Buck Walker and son-in-law, James Howard Walker of Vancouver, Washington; four grandchildren: Douglas Woolard, Vicki Hacker and husband Lash, Stephen Walker, and Erik Walker; step-granddaughter, Lisa Lewis; four great-grandchildren, Cynthia Woolard, Ashley Walker, Ashley Woolard and Daniel Hacker; five step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; three step-great-great-grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews. Her love of history and community touched the lives of many locally and from across the country. Visitation will be at Bryant Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
